  • Created and approved a District Anti-Racism Policy

  • We have continued our consultancy relationship with Lanise Stevenson from Johns Hopkins who is an expert in the field of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

  • Provided DEI training at the board’s annual retreat.

  • Provide professional development of staff consistent with the district’s equity goals, especially in the areas of culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR) instruction, technology and content specialization.

  • Created the FTPS Districtwide Equity Plan, which is available on the district’s website. The DEI Plan is a very detailed plan and involves input from key stakeholders from the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Senior Manager of Policy and Community Engagement, Directors, Supervisors, Principals, union representatives, and the BOE president.

  • Created a new position entitled District Supervisor of Equity & Inclusion to manage the Board-approved FTPS Districtwide Equity Plan. This position was initially part-time but we realized that it is more than a full-time job.

  • Supported the establishment of equity leadership in each school, and each school’s  Teacher Leadership Academy teams.

  • Although we began our work on equity several years ago, the DOE has recently urged districts to go beyond mere compliance found in self-study opportunities such as its tri-annual Comprehensive Equity Plan mandate.  We are very proud of the work that has been accomplished so far, but we know the work is not done yet.
