Walter "Bernie" Jackson

Walter believes in Franklin! He believes in the support and success that his own children had in the district. He strongly believes in the work done before, during, and after this global pandemic. He believes in the success of all the students, the satisfaction of all the staff, and the connection of the entire community. Walter believes that there were special accomplishments made during his first term in the district. Walter wants to continue this work because this work is important to advance Franklin’s community.

Get to Know Walter

Family:

Walter Bernie Jackson, Jr. lives, worships, and serves in Somerset, NJ. Walter has been in Franklin Township for 24 years with his beautiful wife, Catina, and raised their three amazing daughters, Tiana, Jasmine, and Chloe. They are affectionately known as The Jackson 5 Family.

Walter was born in Cleveland and raised in East Cleveland, Ohio where he attended private Catholic school from kindergarten to 12th grade of high school. Walter Jackson is a 1995 graduate of Hampton University with a B.S. degree in Business Management.

 

Career:

Walter has established his career in the financial sector for 26 years with Merrill Lynch/Bank of America and currently serves as a senior compliance officer.

Community Service:

Walter takes his civic responsibilities seriously. Walter is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a member of Franklin’s YMCA Task Force, and serves as a volunteer with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Walter has been active with the Junior Achievement Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, and various mentoring programs. He is passionate about encouraging and inspiring people. In prior years, Walter served as a District Church School Superintendent in the A.M.E. Church, where he implemented the strategic planning of various curriculums, organized Church School Conventions throughout the state of New Jersey, and supported making Church Schools a happy, fun, and comfortable learning environment for children as well as adults.

 

Board of Education Experience:

Walter is currently an elected official as a member of the Franklin Township Board of Education. As a Board of Education member, Walter has chaired and served on various committees, such as Curriculum, Policy, Safety & Security, Finance, Facilities/Technology/Transportation and Personal & Negotiation Committees. Walter is committed to serve and dedicated to ensuring the betterment of today’s youth and the Franklin Township community.
